What is a Descriptive Text?

Its main purpose is to help the reader imagine what the subject looks like, sounds like, feels like, smells like, or even tastes like. It uses descriptive language to create a vivid picture in the reader's mind.

Key Features of a Descriptive Text:

·       Identification: Introduces the person, place, animal, or thing being described.

·       Description of Appearance: Details about physical attributes, size, shape, colour, etc.

·       Description of Qualities/Characteristics: Details about behaviour, personality, features, etc.

·       Use of Adjectives: Words that describe nouns (e.g., beautiful, tall, fluffy, delicious).

·       Use of Adverbs: Words that describe verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs (e.g., quickly, very, softly).

·       Use of Sensory Details: Words that appeal to the five senses (sight, hearing, touch, smell, taste).

·       Present Tense: Generally uses the present tense to describe something that exists or is generally true.

Generic Structure (Typical Organization):

1.     Identification: Introduces the subject being described.

2.     Description: Provides details about the subject's appearance, qualities, and characteristics.
